At Global Graphics Software, we believe that consistent and accurate color is the foundation of high-quality printing. That’s why we’re excited to highlight our partner, Barbieri Electronic, and their forward-looking OEM Embedded Spectral Color Sensor – a concept that points the way to smarter, more connected print production.
Built on Barbieri’s proven qb spectral technology, the new sensor is designed for integration into digital printing systems. It delivers the precision needed for calibration, profiling, and process control, while also supporting secure OPC UA connectivity for seamless communication in Industry 4.0 environments.
At Labelexpo Europe (Hybrid Software Booth 5E55), we’ll be showing an early prototype, providing a demonstration of the sensor communicating with SmartDFE, our digital front end platform for label & packaging and industrial presses.
The benefits of the concept are clear:
- High accuracy spectral color measurement: The color sensor delivers outstanding measurement performance by capturing spectral data according to ISO 13655-2017.
- Embedded color measurement: This sensor can be mounted inside a digital printing system to spectrally measure and monitor color. This opens the door to making color measurement and adjustment an active part of the printing process itself, rather than an offline step.
- SmartDFE connectivity: The prototype communicates securely with SmartDFE over OPC UA, showing how reliable automation and future-proof communication can be achieved in smart factory workflows.
- Enhanced quality control: Embedded spectral measurement keeps an eye on brand colors, spot colors, and process stability.
- Sustainability and less waste: Embedded color control helps save ink, media, and energy while keeping production lean.

SmartDFE already makes use of our sister company ColorLogic’s spectral color technology for advanced color management, ensuring the highest accuracy in reproduction. By combining this with Barbieri’s embedded measurement capabilities, we can envision a powerful ecosystem where color consistency is continuously verified, corrected, and optimized throughout production.
Shaping the Smart Factory of Print
Embedded spectral measurement is still at the conceptual stage, but the potential is clear: more automation, less waste, faster turnaround, and consistently perfect print. Together with Barbieri and powered by ColorLogic, Global Graphics Software is exploring the next frontier in smart, connected print production.
